Cada vez faltan menos bandas para completar el cartel del Azkena Rock 2015 y hoy podemos confirmar a Wovenhand para la jornada del sábado 20 de junio.
Wovenhand es una banda de country alternativo liderada por el músico y letrista David Eugene Edwards. En 2001, con el parón de su legendaria banda 16th Horsepower, arrancó Wovenhand siguiendo la trayectoria musical de su anterior formación pero desde un punto de vista más personal. Su prolífico trabajo en ambos proyectos ha influido e inspirado a una generación de artistas en distintos ámbitos del mundo de la música alternativa.
No es fácil definir la música de Wovenhand en términos tradicionales, un trabajo donde se entretejen neo-folk, post rock, punk y sonidos alternativos. Todo ello vehiculado por la entregada voz de Edwards así como por la continua exploración de su propia espiritualidad cristiana.
‘Refractory Obdurate’ (2014) es el séptimo y último disco de Wovenhand, en el que Edwards explora líneas esbozadas en anteriores álbumes en busca de su sonido definitivo.

El Azkena Rock 2015 presenta la distribución del cartel por días, dos sólidas jornadas repletas de propuestas interesantes. Ya falta poco, además, para cerrar el cartel. Próximamente iremos anunciando las dos bandas que completarán el escenario principal el sábado y las formaciones que cerrarán el tercer escenario cada noche. Pronto se celebrarán las finales del concurso de bandas ‘ARF Rock Party’ y podremos conocer a los tres ganadores que actuarán en el festival. Finalmente, quedan por desvelar los nombres de los artistas que actuarán en la Plaza de la Virgen Blanca.
A partir de hoy, las entradas de día están ya a la venta a un precio de 52€ más gastos (y 5€ adicionales para acceder a la zona de acampada) y el bono de dos días pasa a tener su precio definitivo, 79€ + gastos (5€ adicionales para acceder a la zona de acampada).

El Azkena Rock Festival incorpora a su cartel a Mastodon, banda con una de las evoluciones más interesantes del panorama actual de rock y metal desde su formación en 1999. El cuarteto de Atlanta presentará en Mendizabala su sexto disco de estudio, ‘Once More ‘Round the Sun’ (2014), una nueva vuelta de tuerca a su inclasificable sonido en la que siguen demostrando una impecable ejecución. Esta es la primera ocasión en la que trabajan con el prestigioso productor Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush), un plus a la ya inherente calidad de Mastodon.
Su álbum debut, ‘Remission’, publicado en 2002, ya fue disco de oro. Le siguió ‘Leviathan’ (2014), un álbum conceptual inspirado en la novela Moby Dick, que contó con el apoyo de la crítica y que supuso su entrada por todo lo alto en el panorama musical internacional. En 2006 editaron ‘Blood Mountain’ y en 2009 ‘Crack The Skye’. Dos años después publicaron ‘The Hunter’, su mayor éxito comercial hasta la fecha, con el que entraron directamente al número 10 de la lista Billboard.
Trash metal, stoner rock, metal progresivo, hardcore e incluso heavy metal clásico son, entre otras, algunas de las aguas por las que navega Mastodon. Difíciles de etiquetar, de lo que no hay duda es de que firman uno de los directos más potentes de la actualidad musical.

Una de las bandas legendarias del blues rock y del hard rock, ZZ Top, será uno de los dos cabezas de cartel de la decimocuarta edición del Azkena Rock Festival. Formados en 1970 en Houston, Texas, por Billy Gibbons (voz y guitarra), Dusty Hill (bajo) y Frank Beard (batería), mantienen su formación original tras más de cuatro décadas de trayectoria.
En 2004 fueron incluidos en el Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Tienen once Discos de Oro y siete de Platino. Su disco ‘Eliminator’, de 1983, vendió 10 millones de unidades en todo el mundo y son uno de los grupos de rock con mayor éxito en Estados Unidos, donde han vendido más de 25 millones de discos a lo largo de su carrera. A pesar de que su estilo ha evolucionado desde el rock sureño con raíces blues de sus inicios y de que, en el camino, han incorporado influencias new wave, punk rock o incluso dance rock con sintetizadores, la base del rock and roll y el hard rock siempre ha permanecido como una de las señas de identidad de la banda.
Otras de sus características principales son el humor y los dobles sentidos de sus letras y, cómo no, el inconfundible look de Gibbons y Hill con sus larguísimas barbas, que ha convertido a ZZ Top en una formación icónica del rock estadounidense. Creadores de hits como ‘La Grange’ o ‘Tush’, su presencia en el Azkena Rock 2015 como uno de los dos cabezas de cartel del festival, será, sin duda, un auténtico lujazo.

SOULBURN, ROTTING CHRIST, SPEEDBREAKER
SOULBURN is one of those fine mid ’90s bands that had their roots firmly planted in the ’80s and the very early ’90s, but that is not surprising since the band was formed by ex-Asphyx drummer Bob Bagchus and his former Asphyx bandmate, guitarist Eric Daniels. The original line up was completed by Wannes Gubbels from Pentacle (who has also served time in Asphyx), all of whom had remained true to the death metal cause throughout the tough times. The band’s debut album ‘Feeding On Angels’ was released by Century Media in 1998 and is a hellhammering doomy dark blackened death metal assault coming across like a more black/death sounding Asphyx overall, which should appeal to fans of both that band and Pentacle as well as bands such as Hellhammer, early Celtic Frost, classic Bathory, Messiah, Desaster etc., forsaking technicality in favour of primitive but very powerful riffs, topped off with rasping vocals, pounding drumming and an organic production. Edging ever closer towards 30 years as a band, ROTTING CHRIST is an act that’s seen the ups and downs of the music industry, and been around for much of metal’s evolution. The band isn’t sitting still with only one style, and the latest outputs propels its sounds into a new arena that will draw in some fans from unexpected sources. From the early days there was no doubt that ROTTING CHRIST were a truly unique band, but with their last two albums, “Theogonia” and “Aealo”, and now even more with the brand new “Κατά Τον Δαίμονα ΕαυτοÏ” they are proving once again not only that they are an unstoppable force in the extreme Metal scene but also that they still have a lot to offer.
Much like the grand thrash revival of the early 2000′s, that is really still going strong today, good old fashioned speed metal seems to be making a major comeback in recent years. While many bands no doubt realize the importance of acts speed metal classics like Motörhead, Exciter and Razor, it would seem that not until recently, at least, that the younger generations are realizing just how fun speed metal can be. SPEEDBREAKER is one such speed metal revival act, focusing on fast and rollicking paced heavy metal with a melodically infused dual guitar attack and whiskey drenched vocals that would make Lemmy proud. CANNIBAL CORPSE, ENSIFERUM, AGALLOCH, WINTERFYLLETH
Upon the moors of ancient Albion, a cold wind of Black Metal fury has been roaring, growing steadily in pitch since its first stirrings back in 2007. England's own WINTERFYLLETH has pretty much branded English Black Metal into the flesh of the international map. The name WINTERFYLLETH is derived from the Old English for 'winter full moon', a moniker which brings about visions of frost amid foggy moors of naked trees, benighted and ancient. For a band that has spent the last 15 years gracefully and aggressively testing the limits of the sound that heavy metal makes, Portland’s AGALLOCH have explored many ways. AGALLOCH have twisted Black Metal into a fabric of folk reverie, classical grandeur and atmospheric washes. There have been exultant harmonies and disembodied howls, chamber music interludes and industrial noise ruptures, gilded acoustic fantasies and barbaric electric marches. From the start, AGALLOCH created new ways to work these disparate elements into complicated prog-rock forms—song suites, lengthy tracks, uninterrupted albums—while maintaining momentum. From the chilly Scandinavian homeland which they draw their inspiration, ENSIFERUM sits atop the heap of modern folk-metal bands. Along with other few genre standbys ENSIFERUM have built their reputation with heroic lyrics, power-metal riffs, and raspy guttural vocals. The band is well known for their very entertaining live shows and it´s about time that these northmen return to german soil. ENSIFERUM live at Party.San Metal Open Air 2015.
Sometimes, a band can completely divide its fanbase right down the middle by making changes in their sound, or revising their identity altogether. They try new directions or sometimes ride the waves of popularity in what mainstream metal shifts towards. We feel like no one has ever had these sorts of problems with CANNIBAL CORPSE, in their quarter-century long career. Honestly, have these guys ever put out a bad album? If any Death Metal fan exists who isn’t into CANNIBAL CORPSE, (unbloody likely, but they could exist), you better do your homework. Ya se acerca la recta final del concurso ‘ARF Rock Party’. Los seguidores del festival, tras emitir un total de 62.934 votos, eligieron entre las 1.076 bandas y solistas que se habían presentado al certamen. Ahora llega el momento de que el jurado elija al vencedor de cada una de las seis finales que se celebrarán en marzo. La final de Valencia cambia de sala a la Jerusalem y en Vitoria actuarán Sermond's en lugar de El Fabuloso Combo Espectro, que se retira por problemas de agenda.
El acceso a las finales es gratuito, a través de invitación. Las invitaciones para cada final podrán solicitarse a través del apartado Rock Party dentro de la web oficial de Azkena Rock Festival. El plazo de solicitud se abre en este momento y finalizará a las 13:00horas del viernes anterior a cada final. Para solicitar las invitaciones deberás completar un breve formulario con tus datos y la final a la que quieres asistir. Después, la organización del festival confirmará mediante correo electrónico la aceptación de la solicitud. Cada invitación es individual y sólo podrá solicitarse una por persona.
